Modi praises Indian soldiers on Victory Day, skipping Bangladesh

Bangladesh gained independence on December 16, 1971, with the surrender of the Pakistani occupying forces. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi, refraining from greeting Bangladesh on the occasion of Victory Day, called the day a historic victory for India.

In a post on social media Facebook on Monday (December 16), he highlighted the contribution of Indian soldiers against Pakistan in 1971. Modi wrote in his post, “Today, Victory Day. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless sacrifice and unwavering determination have saved our nation and brought us glory.”

He also said in the post, “This day is a tribute to their extraordinary heroism and their indomitable spirit. Their sacrifice will forever inspire generations and will be deeply embedded in the history of our nation.”

However, Narendra Modi did not mention Bangladesh by name even once in the entire post. This has created mixed reactions among social media users in Bangladesh. Many are seeing this as an example of ignoring Bangladesh's Victory Day.

On the other hand, while various countries pay tribute to Bangladesh's freedom struggle on the occasion of Victory Day, Modi's post has sparked fresh controversy.
